Herb Weeks in the Drau Valley
6. April to 4. May 2019
Discover new aromas and medicinal powers!
A whole week all about herbs for health and cooking: on Monday and Wednesday mornings there are informative presentations and herb courses with the herbal experts from Berg im Drautal. From the Oberberger Alm you can join us on the herbal hiking trail, where you can discover the different local herbs described along the way as you hike up to the summit cross of the Knoten at more than 2.000 m.
Master Chef Alois will reveal ancient knowledge about the local wild herbs to you and tell you how they are used in modern cooking. Once you have been inspired by the vegetable and herb gardens at the Glocknerhof you will want to find out more about the juicy green plants. The worlds of scents you can immerse yourself in are as varied as the effects of the individual plants. For summer the expert recommends peppermint, lemon balm, woodruff, coriander or sage. These stimulate the senses and the metabolism, and are sure to put you in a good mood.
Whether it is pineapple mint, Moroccan mint or peppermint, these herbs are extremely easy to look after and grow well in moist spots such as the edge of woodland, so it is worth keeping a watchful eye out when you go for a walk. Herbs not only go down well prepared as teas, but they also add a refreshing tangy note to salads, potato or pasta dishes. Thanks to its high menthol content mint cools the body on hot summer days.
In the little herb village of Irschen (just ten kilometres away) you will also find local products ranging from syrup to hard liquor, and from herbs for making tea to items of clothing etc. Prepare to be surprised!
Extra by request: guided high herbal hike, excursion to the herbal village of Irschen.
